Food And Nutrition
Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) is an awards scheme funded by the Mayor of London which supports and recognises achievements in child health, wellbeing and development in early years settings.
HEYL compliments and enhances the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework, adding to the focus on children, families and staff health and wellbeing.

Food
A healthy, balanced diet is one of the most principal parts of a wholesome
Lifestyle. We laboriously educate children about nutrition, and our menus always
Include a minimum of five portions of fruit and veg per day.

Nursery Food
Our aim is to ensure that our children access a balanced menu that supports their developmental needs.
The nursery chef prepares fresh meals every day!
We serve breakfast, lunch and tea, plus morning & afternoon snacks.
We have a 3 week rotating menu, an example of week 1 can be seen below.
Accommodating all diets & special requirements, offering a balanced mix of plant-based and sustainably-sourced white, red meat & fish dishes.
Dietary Needs
We cater for every child’s individual needs, whether they are allergies, intolerances, religious beliefs or personal wishes.
Weaning
When your child reaches the stage you begin weaning them at home we will be here to offer support, follow your instructions and provide consistency of care to assist their development through this important step.
We liaise with you on which foods you have introduced at home. We will not introduce any food that you haven’t already tried at home with your child.
The nursery menus will be adapted for your child’s weaning needs.
Drinking Water
Fresh drinking water is made available to all children constantly throughout the day.
Individually labelled beakers and water bottles are available at snack time and throughout the day. The children are made aware that drinks are available and they are encouraged to locate their own bottle/beaker depending on their age/stage of development.
Food Hygiene
All staff involved in food preparation have, a minimum of, the basic food hygiene qualification.
